Martin grew Ainscough Crane Hire into the UK's largest and most successful crane business, prior to its sale in 2007. He is chairman of the Ainscough Group of Companies which invests in and owns a wide range of business interests including property investment, finance and private equity companies. He has set up a Charitable Trust and sits on the Prince's Trust Fundraising Committee and The Leyland Board. He is currently working to deliver the new Wigan Youth Zone setting new national standards for young people's facilities, and is the Board Chairman of the new University Technical College Wigan.
A former Army officer, Steve was the commanding officer of 1st Battalion The Queen’s Lancashire Regiment, and retired as a full Colonel. His early career as a young officer included extensive adventure training experience as a canoeing, wind surfing, caving and climbing instructor. He has occupied senior museum director posts over the last 4 years, latterly at the National Railway Museum. Steve has significant international military experience, and is heavily involved in a number of voluntary projects, including in Sierra Leone.
Andy brings considerable experience of both his passion for water sports, especially surfing and wake boarding, and of operations within the Ainscough Group of companies to the Board’s discussions and deliberations. He has held hands-on positions within Ainscough Crane Hire and the Ainscough Vanguard companies. He also has extensive knowledge of the water sports leisure scene, and is engaged in sports beyond the shoreline. He is, for example, an active member of the Rochdale Hornets Rugby League squad.
Steve is an experienced corporate financier. As a chartered accountant, Steve previously worked at Arthur Anderson and went on to become a partner of Hurst and Co. Steve provides a corporate finance role across the Ainscough Group and holds directorships in finance, property investment and private equity companies. He brings considerable financial experience and judgment to the Conwy Adventure Leisure Ltd Board.
